CREATIVE RESEARCH
Trained as a photographer in traditional studio programs, Legatt uses photography as both a tool for documentation and social engagement. Whether its through direct contact with the photograph as an object or as a catalyst for community exchange, the photograph is used as a powerful catalyst for story-telling and interaction.

In 2002, Legatt's interest in the photograph began to expand beyond the typical documentation of place or person. She began to explore the purpose of photography beyond documentation and focused instead on its relationship to object, memory, and association. I singular moment, captured in time, from a singular perspective, and presented without explanation, creates a rich starting point for discourse and interpretation. Pair that with Legatt's interest in alternative digital processes and you have a wide range of work that partners object with narrative through photography.

Work in this section represents her progression from traditional landscape photographer to social practice artist with a photography background.
